Approximately 10 years ago, I started to apply some of the principles I used with my equity portfolio to National Football League Games. At that time, I was writing for a weekly magazine, OUTREACH, that was marketed by Toronto’s homeless and unemployed. I published a two-part column in the summer of 2013, THE NFL MEETS THE CFA, that gives you a pretty good idea of my approach when it comes to “investing” in the National Football League.
For the 2022 season, we’re going to offer our followers three different “programs”, as it were.
The Fund Manager and his partner, Dr. Alan, have jointly entered the Westgate Contest in Las Vegas. Each week, they will select five games against the spread. We start with a “virtual” portfolio of $1,000 and on their favourite selection, wager $550 to win $500, then on the next favourite $440 to win $400, then $330 to win $300, then $220 to win $200, and finally $110 to win $100. You can track these selections and if you’re so inclined “piggy-back” off of them.
This year, the Fund Manager will start with a “virtual” portfolio of $1,000 and make a variety of selections which could include against the spread, money line, over/under, or any prop bets where he sees value. The Fund Manager would have actually made these wagers before recommending them.
Similarly, I will start with a “virtual” portfolio of $1,000 and make a variety of selections from bet365. I will have actually made the wagers before recommending them: I will always place them Saturday just before the podcast is recorded and posted to my website.
Please keep in mind that although I believe we’ve demonstrated a very good historical track record, that we’re no infallible… make sure that when you “invest”, you can afford it if things don’t work out!
